It was the best of times at The Birch Creek Performance Center where we premiered my composition “Throughlines” for mixed percussion ensemble - a piece dedicated to the 50-year legacy of this beautiful place, and honoring the individuals and communities that have contributed to it. The week was full of metric modulations, beautiful (but unplanned) sunrises, counting on both hands, late-night shots of Angostura Bitters (ok, Wisconsin?), lots of laughs, and unbelievably talented colleagues. I’m both grateful for the opportunity and mindful of the legacy that lead to these moments.

Island to Island drops today.
This project has been a long time in the making. I’m incredibly proud of the music we made and the people who made it with us: From the first ideas traded back-and-forth with @alexbrownmusic to the final mixes, every note is rooted and joy, collaboration, and the spirit of connection.
The first tracks were laid four years ago in the midst of the Covid pandemic, while we were each on our own “personal islands“, but the name also references my home, St. John, V.I. and Alex‘s home, Manhattan. Two very different islands, but connected musically in many ways.
